From beginning to end, Spring Awakening will take you on the journey of three teenagers’ coming-of-age in small-town Germany in the 1890s. Based on the controversial German play of the same title by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening tells the story of teenage self-discovery through dark and difficult topics such as teen suicide, physical abuse and unplanned pregnancy. Yet, it is through these dark times that glimpses of hope, faith and desire create a dynamic balance to life. Raised in a society where adults are oppressive and controlling, these teenagers, alone, question not only their sexuality, but the world in which they live.
The show features contemporary music by Duncan Sheik and lyricist Steven Sater. Dressed in conventional German school uniforms, the cast uses handheld microphones blending traditional theatre with a modern-day rock concert. Spring Awakening is the winner of 8 Tony Awards, including Best Musical in 2007.
WARNING: This show features nudity, sexual content and strong language. Not recommended for children under 17.
